Activities of the Ashrama along the lines laid down by Swami Vivekananda – "Atmano Mokshartham Jagadhitaya cha" or "for the liberation of self & welfare of the world."
Swami Vivekananda was the guest of Sri Haripada Mitra for nine days in October 1892 during his visit to Belgaum. During these days Sri Haripada Mitra had numerous conversations with Swamiji on a variety of topics. Impressed with the holy personality of Swamiji, Sri Haripada Mitra and his wife, Smt. Indumati Mitra, pleaded Swamiji to initiate them (Mantra Deeksha). Swamiji, though initially reluctant, agreed and initiated them both on 25th October 1892 at their house which is presently preserved as a memorial at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Fort, Belgaum.
Each soul is potentially divine. The goal is to manifest this divinity within, by controlling nature, external and internal. Do this either by work or worship, or psychic control, or philosophy – by one, or more, or all of these – and be free. This is the whole of religion. Doctrines, or dogmas, or rituals, or books, or temples, or forms, are but secondary details.
